Your phone rings. Nobody picks up. The caller dials your competitor.

Australian small-to-mid businesses lose more revenue to missed calls than to bad reviews, slow websites, and poor marketing combined. The phone is still the highest-intent channel in your business, and most calls happen outside the hours you’re paying someone to answer them.

[01]

67% of callers won’t leave a voicemail. They hang up and try the next business on the search results page. The lead never even reaches your inbox.

[02]

85% of voicemail leavers don’t call back, even if you return their call later. By then, they’ve usually booked someone else.

[03]

$400–$2,000+ average job value lost per missed call in trades, transport, and home services. One missed after-hours call often pays for a year of AI receptionist running costs.

[04]

Overflow at peak hours hurts just as much. Your reception team can’t answer three lines at once, and the second and third callers are usually the ones you wanted most.

Not a phone tree. Not a chatbot. A real conversation.

A 24/7 recovery operator stopped losing 2am breakdown calls to competitors.

Transport & Recovery Live in production

Every after-hours call answered. Every breakdown dispatched in under 30 seconds.

Before: every callout that came in between 6pm and 6am went to a single duty phone, frequently missed, often left as a voicemail the caller never returned to. After: an AI receptionist now answers every call, captures vehicle make, breakdown location, and urgency, and dispatches the on-call driver directly via SMS. The operator gets a full summary the moment the call ends.

The questions everyone asks before they book a call.

What is an AI receptionist?
An AI receptionist is a voice agent that answers your business phone, holds a natural conversation with the caller, qualifies the enquiry, books appointments into your calendar or CRM, and escalates to a human when needed. Unlike a phone tree or chatbot, it speaks in full sentences, understands context, and works 24 hours a day.
How much does an AI receptionist cost in Australia?
An AI Answers AI receptionist is a fixed-price build starting at $1,500 inc. GST under our EOFY 2026 offer, and $3,500–$8,000 for our standard build depending on call volume and integrations. Running costs are pass-through and typically $80–$300 per month, calculated at $0.15–$0.40 per call answered. The build is R&D Tax Incentive eligible for most Australian businesses, returning 43c per eligible dollar.
Will my AI receptionist sound robotic?
No. Modern voice models are good enough that most callers won’t realise they’re not talking to a person, and we tell you the moment that’s a problem for your specific calls. We pick the voice with you, and you sign off on it before it goes live.
What happens when the AI can’t answer the question?
It escalates. We design escalation paths during scoping. Anything outside the receptionist’s brief gets routed straight to a human on call, or captured as a callback request with full context attached. You’re never left with a confused caller.
Will it confuse my existing regular customers?
Usually the opposite. Regulars get answered faster than they ever did, in the same tone of voice your team uses. We can also flag known callers (from your CRM) so the AI greets them by name and pulls up their job history.
Can it integrate with the systems I already use?
Almost certainly yes. We’ve integrated with ServiceM8, Jobber, simPRO, Pipedrive, HubSpot, Google Calendar, Outlook, Calendly, Twilio, ClickUp, and direct webhooks for custom systems. If you’re not sure, ask Andy on the scoping call.
How is this different from a traditional virtual receptionist service?
A virtual receptionist service charges per call or per minute and uses human operators in a call centre, often offshore. An AI receptionist is a fixed-price build that you own. It answers in milliseconds, runs 24/7 without rosters, never has a sick day, and costs cents per call to run, not dollars per minute.
How long until it’s actually answering my phone?
Standard timeline is 14 days from contract signed to live pilot. Production go-live is typically day 21. The EOFY offer lets you pay now and schedule the build for any time before 31 December 2026.
What does it cost to run, month-to-month?
Voice and AI usage is pass-through and typically lands at $0.15–$0.40 per call answered, depending on call length. Most clients see $80–$300 per month in running costs, about the price of a couple of missed jobs. Full pricing is broken down during scoping.
Is the build R&D Tax Incentive eligible?
For most clients, yes. The custom development component is eligible, which means 43c back per eligible dollar for businesses under $20M turnover. We work with R&D Grants Advisor Rachel to make the claim straightforward.
